Fiesta in Ponta

Yes, we are back and we have recovered… finally!

We had a phenomenal weekend, thanks to Bryan’s organizing well in advance. The fishing, Dolphin watching and diving went without much incident… unlike the pub crawling! A special thanks to Sharon who arranged, set up and oversaw the games which was a huge success. Also thank you very much to Phil and Estelle on the effort they did to get the t-shirts, mugs and caps done on time.

We are off to Ponta soon!

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. Our annual Jamboree is held at the end of October each year, and this year our theme is Mexican Fiesta. Olè!

Most of us will be leaving late Wednesday evening in order to be at the Kosi Bay Border Post by 8am Thursday morning the 27^th. As always we’ve already planned ahead, and the drivers of the vehicles are either leaving their vehicles by Skelm and making use of Border Transfers, or are taking their 4x4 (and a few gutsy 4x2’s) across the border and into Africa!

The SCUBA industry calls on its instructors to spend a lot of time on the road doing courses, dive trips, collecting stock and other little bits and pieces. Most instructors even have a full time job and time with the family becomes very important. We try to include our families on these trips but they are never truly “HOLIDAY” experiences.

Just before departing for Egypt on our annual Red Sea trip, I received a call from Rainer Schimpf who heads up SSI Southern Africa. They were looking for an Instructor Trainer to go to Mauritius to train up a group of candidates, some for Dive Guides, one Instructor X-Over and one new Instructor. The instruction was also given to win some more SSI Dive Centres on the island.

Our newest Instructor is Lynn Erasmus. Congratulations Lynn, we are looking forward to having you on board!

The purpose of an Instructor Training Course (ITC) is to prepare candidates who are experienced and knowledgeable in SCUBA Diving, to train Open Water Diver Students. As many of you are well aware, Lynn has proved herself over and over, being very involved wherever possible and attaining every qualification and doing every dive she had time for in her otherwise very busy schedule.
